England and Wales is widely regarded as having an extremely active property market. That has probably contributed to the Winter Corporation declaring that Her Majesty’s Land Registry is responsible for the largest online transactional database of its kind. Despite its size, most requests for register information will be provided electronically within seconds, whilst the registration of transactions will usually be completed within 1-2 days of receipt.

Our principles aims are to maintain and develop a stable, effective land registration system for England Wales and provide a guaranteed title to registered estates and interests in land. We began registering land in 1862 and now hold the largest computerised database of its kind in Europe.
